BYTHEBAE 'Dew'

April 2024

Video, 3D, Sound

During a collaboration with the newly launched jewellery brand BYTHEBAE, which pursues natural organic forms in its jewellery pieces, I was asked to embody the product concept and create a teaser video for their first product line, Dew.

Personally, dew gives me a delicate, fresh, and somewhat mystical impression, as it exists for a very short moment and vanishes in the middle of the night and morning. The products also possess a simple yet sophisticated quality that effectively captures their theme.

The outcome, a short teaser video, conveys the essence of the brand, the product theme, and my interpretation of the impression of dew through fresh visuals and enchanting sound.

Product theme

"In the break of dawn, the subtle fog seeps in with the crisp and odourless air currents. As the light begins to crack through the clouds, the delicate dew drops begin to shine with the reflection of the sun. The newborn dew rests on flowers and trees, a true essence of purity."

Since Dew was their first collection, the production design focused on visualising the overall mood of the brand and the product theme, rather than just showcasing the products.

An LED Infinity curve was used to create a clean and ethereal atmosphere. The addition of moss adds freshness, intended to evoke the smell of morning. The glass petri dish provides visual weight, with subtle layers of colours and refracted patterns of the pearls in water.

The sound was designed to be bright and enchanting, using a recording of wind chimes layered with the sound of Demung, a traditional percussion instrument from Indonesia.

While I minimised the use of 3D to align with the brand's concept, 3D rendered footage was utilised for Scene #3 as I found it visually interesting to incorporate an organic form structure that blends naturally.

The 3D scene was rendered on a set that replicated the actual filming/lighting environment for seamless integration. I aimed to expand the sense of space by creating the scene as if the 3D object is hanging above the petri dish without placing the two subjects in the same scene.
